Kefalonia- Ionian Greek island

These cold days of winter make me think of the warmth of the Greek sun and the unique beauty of the Greek islands. Kefalonia or Cephalonia is the largest of the islands in the Ionian sea in Western Greece
It's a beautiful place with lots of natural wonders. One of them is the Melissani Lake.
It's an underground Lake where the top caved in. You can take a magical boat ride in the crystal waters.
Yard gates open straight onto the beach.
The long stretch of beach at Sami.

 Melissani Lake

A beautiful beach with olive trees almost all the way down to the water!
If you ever visit Kefalonia, go to Argostoli and have a drink at the small picturesque harbor.
Enjoy!

Semeli Winery-Nemea, Greece

This past Fall, I had the great pleasure to visit the Semeli winery in the hills of Nemea in Greece.
Nemea is a famous wine region of Greece and also the place where, according to Greek mythology, Hercules slayed the famous lion of Nemea and thereafter wore its pelt.
The views of the surrounding mountains, alone, is worth the drive up to the hilltop newly built, contemporary winery. In addition, they have several suites for visitors to spend the night, and will serve lunch or dinner if you call ahead. www.semeliwines.gr
The remains of squeezed grapes are returned to the fields as natural fertilizer. This process is called biodynamic in gardening.

 to the rose filled entrance

Our tour started at the top, as the wine is transported through the wine-making process by gravity.
Initially, the grape juice goes into these giant vats

Fermentation happens in there and then the newly made wine is transferred to barrels or is bottled.
Our able guide, Semeli oenologist Margarita Singiridou, who gave us one of the best winery tours!
Then we went to the cellar where wine is stored in barrels.

If you're ever wondering what to do with all those empty wine bottles, why not make a chandelier!
We tasted five wines and it was a truly unique experience
Stelios and I bought half a case of the red to enjoy when we are in Greece again.
To your Health!
Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

As the year ends I muse on all that's passed since January 2014.
My biggest milestone was publishing my novel, Archangel in April, 2014. It was momentous for me, I had been working on the book since 2002 and it was the culmination of over a decade of work.

New York City at Christmastime

First, I want to wish you a Merry Christmas with this amazing Bulgari necklace and bracelet, as seen on Fifth Avenue!
Then, I want to invite you to the Big Apple Circus. If you ever get a chance to see them when they are touring, please go. It's a small intimate circus, that is also a nonprofit that does a lot of community work.
But, the real reason to go see them is their unbelievable acts.
I'm not going to tell you some of the highlights because I don't want to spoil the show.
But, there are high wire acts, contortionists, magic tricks, animals and lots of fun!

Then we are off onto Fifth Avenue and the Holiday windows of Bergdorf Goodman.

This window was all about reading and I had to show you the close ups!
