Filio restaurant - Kythera

A meal at Filio's restaurant in the village of Kalamos in Kythera, is one of those special treats that one should indulge in at least once a year. The dining room is set on a large balcony, under the thick shade of well trimmed mulberry trees.
The menu consists of traditional Kytherian delicacies prepared with local products.

We were lucky to dine there one evening ourselves on our last sojourn to the island of Kythera. It was a sultry summer night and the restaurant tables were filled with families and couples. What I love about eating out in Greece(apart from the obvious!) is that the families bring their children who play around the tables and no one gets annoyed. Its'a joy to see them! Usually you will see tables filled with three generations of family sharing a meal.
We decided to order a few of the appetizers since my sister in law and I were not hungry enough for main courses. Above is the roast pork with oranges. It melts in your mouth and once you taste it you will never forget it!
Here's some of the delicious food we sampled. These are the fresh beans that are simply steamed and served with lemon and olive oil.
A carafe of local barrel wine compliments the meal.

Bon Appetit,

Maria
